Madhya Pradesh: Bhopal was filled with smoke on Sunday evening when a fire suddenly broke out in wooden warehouses in the Patra Bridge area near the main railway station. The fire, which started around 7:30 in the evening, took a catastrophic turn within a few minutes. There was chaos in the area, and a cloud of smoke was everywhere.

Where and how did the fire start?

According to the information, there are about six to seven wooden poles under the Patra bridge near the railway station. Furniture-making items and dry wood were kept in them. On Sunday evening, due to unknown reasons, a fire broke out in a warehouse, which spread to the rest of the warehouse within a few minutes. Due to the presence of wood and furniture material, the fire broke out rapidly, and flames several feet high started rising.

How many fire engines arrived?

As soon as information about the fire was received, several fire brigade teams reached the spot. It is being said that about 25 to 40 fire engines were involved in controlling the fire. Despite continuous pouring of water and surrounding the fire from all directions, the flames continued till late at night. After about four hours of hard work, the fire personnel brought the fire under control to a great extent.

How much was the loss?

There is no news of any casualty in this accident, but the financial loss is said to be huge. Wood, furniture, and machines worth lakhs of rupees were burnt to ashes. Considering the intensity of the fire, the electricity supply to the surrounding areas was stopped as a precautionary measure. Movement of many trains was also temporarily affected.

What were the difficulties in controlling the fire?

According to fire brigade officials, dry wood and wind direction made efforts to extinguish the fire difficult. Fire vehicles faced difficulty in reaching inside due to narrow streets and the short distance between the warehouses. The police teams present on the spot surrounded the area and sent people to safe places so that there was no loss of life.

Has the investigation started?

At present the cause of the fire is not known. The fire department and police have started an investigation. Primary short circuit or negligence is being considered as the possible cause. The administration has said that a detailed report will be prepared to assess the damage and review safety measures.
